INTERNATIONAL WRESTLING CARTEL

INTERROGATION
SONJAY DUTT

Conducted by Joe Dombrowski
IWC Color Commentator / Media Correspondent

Whether it be in NWA TNA, Ring of Honor, Combat Zone Wrestling, or right here in the IWC, the legend of Sonjay Dutt continues to grow. With his lightning-fast speed, and various aerial attacks, Dutt has quickly become one of the most exciting competitors in wrestling today. Shortly after his IWC debut ("A Call to Arms," Johnstown, PA, 12-12-03), I caught up with Sonjay to discuss his career and his IWC aspirations.

NOTE: This interview was conducted prior to the announcement of Sonjay Dutt's inclusion in Super Indy 3.

Q: Sonjay, you've risen to become one of the most recognizable faces in the independent circuit today, so it's only fitting you be the subject for our next installment of our "IWC Interrogation series." When did you first know you wanted to pursue a career as a professional wrestler?

A: As far back as I can remember. It was always something that I wanted to do, I always thought, "pro wrestler or valet parking driver?" As time went on, I chose to stick with pro wrestling, as I figured the tips of parking cars wasn't going to cut it in the long run.

Q: Describe for us your training and the early portions of your career.

A: It was insane, we fought bears and lions (rotated every week), twice a week and then we were to scrub the toilets with our toothbrushes! Then we learned how to be pro rasslers in a real ring! The early portions of my career stunk! Lots of driving, sleeping in cars and rest stops, and losing more and more and more money as the weeks went by, not to mention my aches and pains.

Q: Who were some of your influences and inspirations then and now?

A: All the people of Johnstown, PA! Other than that, Ric Flair.

Q: It didn't take too long for you to start receiving recognition. What are some of your memories of your time first branching out into a "Super Indy" competitor?

A: I just remember never having weekends off, and people talking about me. I then thought maybe I was doing something right, and I continued to do that.

Q: You've spent time in virtually every major independent group around today. What would you consider some of your highlights from all these various promotions?

A: It would have to be not having to drive to a show and actually flying in a real life plane with wings! Other than that, just having the opportunity to be in a locker room and eventually in the ring with some of the top people in this industry was a tremendous experience. Plus my arrival to NWA TNA was a huge highlight for me.

Q: Indeed, fans have seen you pop up on the weekly NWA TNA pay-per-views, and even briefly becoming #1 contender to their X Division Title. What are your thoughts on your recent run in TNA?

A: I thought it was good, as I was introduced to a whole new crowd and group of fans, and it was definitely a highlight, having the chance to be on PPV every week and learning from some of the best in the business is a highlight every week.

Q: Did you ever expect you'd make such an impact in so little time in the wrestling business?

A: All I knew was that I believed in myself and my abilities and knew that one day it would take me somewhere.

Q: With all that success under your belt, it's no surprise your name was added to an IWC card, specifically the highly prestigeous "Call to Arms" show this past December in Johnstown. Your thoughts on your match that evening (vs. Chris Hero) and the show as a whole?

A: Chris Hero is a bully. And I taught him what it feels like to be bullied and not be the bullier! He's no hero, he's a zero!

Q: What was your initial reaction to IWC and its organization, its locker room, and its talent?

A: It was great, very professional and some of the biggest names in the industry.

Q: What does IWC offer that some other promotions out there may not be so good at?

A: A tremendous atmosphere, some of the best talent around, and Norm Connors.

Q: Any IWC superstars you're looking forward to potentially wrestling? Any superstars outside of IWC
you'd consider "dream opponents"?

A: I want a shot at the gold, that's all I'm concerned about, when I go through the metal detectors in the airports, I want it to go off and secruity check me and say, "Hey man, that's the IWC title!" And I'll say, "Damn skippy hippy, let me through!" Then I will fade off into the sunset to defend my gold!

Q: What should fans expect when they see the name "Sonjay Dutt" on a card?

A: A sexy animal who will give you your money's worth. Fans should also expect to buy Sonjay merchandise at www.sonjay.com.

Q: What does the future hold for Sonjay Dutt in IWC and abroad?

A: It holds everything. Money, gold, women, I-95, women and more women! Oh and lots of check marks in the win column here in IWC, watch out for one man cartel, THE ORIGINAL PLAYA, FROM THE HIMALAYA, SONJAY DUTT!!

Q: Thank you for your time...any final words for your fans?

A: I love you all, thank you for your support.
