INTERROGATION IWC Super Indy Champion STERLING JAMES KEENAN ![]() Conducted by Joe Dombrowski IWC Play-By-Play / Media Correspondent A: 2004 was the best year thus far in my rather short wrestling career. I proved to myself, and the fans that I am as good as I say I am, not just a "local guy." Q: The year certainly started strong for you but underwent a downward spiral as the spring approached and Dean Radford captured the IWC Heavyweight Title from you. Your bad luck furthered when CM Punk severed his ties with you, exactly how did that disagreement come about? A: Punk and I have been friends for years. He taught me a lot about the business. He taught me how to win. All of a sudden, the IWC fans got into his head. He jumped off of the cage at IWC's Caged Fury, and the crowd decided to love him. He forgets that he used to be the biggest rulebreaker around. Punk has been extremely hypocritical as of late, and needs to remember that I've only been doing what's necessary to win. Something HE taught me. Q: From there things didn’t go so well. You developed a losing streak of sorts in subsequent matches with International Champion Soldier, then-Super Indy Champion Chris Sabin, Sonjay Dutt, and Larry Zbyszko. How do you respond to your critics that may say you were on an unstoppable downward spiral by that point? A: I've already responded. I'm the IWC Super Indy Champion. How's that for an "unstoppable downward spiral?" Q: Well, I will give credit where credit is due, whether you won or you lost, the level of compeition you met each and every show was very commendable. Despite your slump, you continued to face the absolute best in the world. Why not try to lower the level of competition and ease your way back into the win column? A: I had nothing to prove to the "lower tier." I've beaten everyone in IWC. Hentai, Doe, Radford, Gregory. I've pinned them all. I needed to shut up the critics, and prove that I'm every bit as good as I've always claimed to be. Q: I have to strongly disagree with you referring to those men as a 'lower tier' but regardless of that, by fall you were back to your winning ways when you defeated the only man other than you to hold both U.S.-based IWC singles titles, “Classic” Colt Cabana. Did you already know at this point that you were to dub yourself the “Super Indy Killer”? A: I've always been the "Super Indy Killer." It's just that nobody ever decided to pay attention to me. I knew I could beat anyone in the world, but I needed to get the attention I deserved. I needed to grab the IWC by the balls and say "Hey, look how good I am!" Q: From that point on your win streak resumed almost like it had never disappeared, as Dirk Ciglar and “Fabulous” John McChesney becamde your latest victims. Then, perhaps your most impressive victory up to that point, you defeated CM Punk in Harrisburg, and as a result of that match’s stipulation, you won the right to use CM Punk as a tag team partner whenever you saw fit, much to Punk’s chagrin. Yet lately, you’ve refused any involvement with him. Do you have any intention of associating yourself with Punk again? A: A great magician never reveals his tricks. Punk has to clear his head, and realize just who the hell I am. Just know that when the time is right, great things will happen for CM Punk and SJK. Q: December 11, 2004 will forever be remembered as one of the most important in your career, as you outlasted McChesney, Josh Prohibition, and then-NWA TNA X Division Champion Petey Williams to win the Super Indy Title. Your thoughts on finally having IWC gold around your waist again? A: It's always been just a matter of time. Since the IWC powers-that-be opted not to GIVE me a title shot, I just took it. By pinning Petey, I proved that I'm not only the best wrestler in the IWC, but I'm on another level. Q: However, as always, you do have critics, critics that question the validity of that championship win. Keep in mind, then-Super Indy champion Chris Sabin had to forfeit the title due to injury, resulting in a scheduled 3 way match between McChesney (the #1 contender), Petey Williams (a deserving challenger due to his X Division Title) and Josh Prohibition (voted by fans to wrestle Petey that night). You sir, fit nowhere in that equation, the fans didn’t vote for you to wrestle Petey, and you weren’t scheduled to be in that match. How do you respond to these remarks? A: When have I ever cared about what the fans think? What makes you think I give a damn about what YOU think? The facts are like this. I outlasted 3 of the top Indy workers in the country. Make that North America, because Petey's a filthy Canadian. I didn't steal a win, I dominated. Given the opportunity, I would've beaten Chris Sabin that night. I would've beaten AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, Chris Hero, Samoa Joe, or any other man on this planet that night. Q: Not only do you seem to have gained back your confidence, also I must admit you’re in the best shape of your career right now. With all this going for you, you’ve only had one setback since becoming “Super Indy Killer” and that man is Spyder Nate Webb who defeated you on November 13 at “Accept No Limitations”. Your comments? A: The sun shines on a dog's ass every now and again. Nate Webb is one helluva wrestler. Forget the stupid 45 minute dancing entrance. Forget the fact that he should've been born on the end of a coat hanger. Forget that he's the ugliest S.O.B. I've ever wrestled, and that's saying something. On February 26, history will NOT repeat itself. I'm going to show the IWC fans that they wasted their time begging for Webb to be brought into the IWC. They're going to realize that the real star has been here all along. Q: As a result of his prior win, Webb has been granted a Super Indy Championship match on Saturday night February 26 at the Wilmerding YMCA for “Wild in Wilmerding”. Both of you men have a tremendous amount of momentum on your side, what’s your state of mind leading into this Super Indy Title match? A: Dombrowski, what are you, my shrink? Since when is what goes on in my mind any of your business? All you need to know, is that I will not lose this title. Nothing will stop me. Not a tsunami, not a great plague, not the second coming of Christ will stop me. Nate Webb will lose. Q: I’m sure Nate Webb will end up reading this, as do all of his fans as well, many of whom’s calls & e-mails to the IWC offices played a major role in Webb being here in the first place. With the eyes of the indy wrestling world set upon you at this moment, do you have any message for the fans or for “Spyder” Nate Webb himself? A: There comes a time in everyone's life when they will have a brush with greatness. This goes for "Spyder" and the IWC fans. That time is now. That greatness, goes by the name of Sterling James Keenan. Soon the entire world will realize, that you just can't rock like me motherf___r. Send feedback to iwcmc_dombrowski@yahoo.com |
