EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH STERLING JAMES KEENAN by Joe Dombrowski IWC Color Commentator / Media Correspondent
But what's really going on in Keenan's mind concerning this title match and his recent controversial actions? I had the opportunity to sit down with Keenan recently to get his thoughts on these matters. Q: Sterling, as we sit here, we're just days away from unquestionably your biggest career opportunity to date, as you challenge Dennis Gregory for the IWC Championship coming up Saturday night November 1. But before we get into that, I want to back track a little and talk about some of your recent actions. It seems over the past several months you have evolved from a young up-and-coming kid into a sinister man, a diabolical leader who will get to the top of the wrestling world at any costs. What's fueled the change? A: There actually hasn't been a change. I simply decided to be the real me. I decided to be the Sterling that the world will remember. In the twisted society we live in, people never remember the nice guy, or good guy. It's the evil forces in life that captures their attention. People remember Charles Manson, not the cops who arrested him. They remember Dracula, not Johnathan Harker. In order to get ahead in this business, much like life, I had to embrace the darkness, and as you've no doubt noticed, it has paid off. Q: Not only were you able to change yourself, but you convinced others to undergo this same metamorphosis: namely Troy Lords and especially JT Rodgers. Thanks to you, Rodgers and Lords turned their back on their best friend of 12 years, Eric Xtasy, in order to join forces with you. Then the three of you delivered a sickening beating on Xtasy a couple months ago, targeting his surgically repaired leg. What would motivate you to mastermind such a heinous act? A: I only did what was neccessary. The fans and office of IWC were so enthralled with the ideas of bringing stars like Eric Angle and Shane Douglas in to headline, I had to remind them about me. With Xtasy coming back to a huge ovation, not only did it shock the fans, but it provided me with a little bit of pleasure, watching tears well up in their eyes, and hearing the screams of agony from Xtasy as we ravaged his leg. Q: Well, regardless of your downright sickening tactics, one thing I will give you credit for is your incredible in-ring ability. You've beaten everybody from Shirley Doe to CM Punk, and your success was noticed when promoter Norm Connors put you in a #1 Contender Match against Al B. Damm. Granted, you won the match and the title shot, but not without assistance from JT Rodgers. How can you be proud of receiving a title shot under those circumstances? A: Pride has nothing to do with life. Pride is not a neccessity. I did what needed to be done. You honestly think I needed JT to interfere? Of course I didn't. We were merely sending a message. A message saying that we were not to be ignored or taken lightly, and that we will take we want, however we want to take it. Q: During your recent match with BJ Whitmer, none other than IWC Champion Dennis Gregory made an appearance and confronted you. How did it feel to be on the receiving end of things for a change instead of being the one to dish it out? A: To be perfectly honest, I admired Dennis Gregory. For a long time, I watched as he did things his way in IWC as well as other organizations. He was evil, tactful, and extremely successful. However, he let the fans get in his head. He believes that they care about him. This will ultimately prove to be his downfall. I saw shades of the Denny of old when he interfered, but he did it for the wrong reason. And as I will show him November 1st, you cannot play mindgames with the mentally superior. Q: Will this championship match be a straight-up contest, or will you have your disciples lurking in the shadows to do your dirty work again, as has been so commom among the three of you as of late? A: Do I need my disciples? Absolutely not. Will they be involved? Anything is possible. But until November 1st, that is for me to know, and you to find out. Q: Last time you were part of an unfair beatdown it was yourself, JT, Troy, as well as Bubba the Bulldog and Jimmy Vega$ attacking Eric Angle, Dustin Ardine, and promoter Norm Connors, however your plans were thwarted by the appearance of "Extreme IWC" consisting of Eric Xtasy, Josh Prohibition, M-Dogg 20, Jimmy Jacobs, and the one and only "Franchise" Shane Douglas. Any uneasyness about the fact all five of those men will be in the building, most likely watching for any and all trickery or unfair advantages on your part? A: No. Q: If you capture the IWC Championship, what kind of champion can we expect to see you become? A: Allow me to rephrase that for you. WHEN I become the IWC Champion, a new era will dawn in IWC. I will show the wrestling world that Extreme IWC is a failed attempt to resurrect the dead. My reign will be eternal. My wrath, unavoidable. My Uprising... Unstoppable. Q: But what if you lose your title match to Dennis Gregory, then where does Sterling James Keenan go from here? A: You need only refer back to your last question. Q: Well, thank you for your time, I certainly look forward to calling the championship match this Saturday night. A: The pleasure has been all yours. As you see, a very confident Sterling James Keenan. But is it justified? Will Keenan score the biggest win of his career and begin his self-proclaimed "unstoppable uprising" or will the resourceful veteran Dennis Gregory have one more trick up his sleeve than Keenan and be able to walk out retaining champion? This promises to be one of the most important championship matches in recent memory. The ramifications from this match will be felt for months. And there's only one way to see it live, be there at CCAC South Campus in West Mifflin, PA this Saturday night! Send feedback to iwcmc_dombrowski@yahoo.com |
